About The Conference

Outlook Speakout is a platform which brings together achievers who have made a difference by pushing the envelope of excellence in their chosen field. It is a platform to be outspoken and to Speak Out. The theme for the 2nd edition of Outlook Speakout is Women Empowerment.

Smriti Irani is Union Cabinet Minister of Textiles and Member of Parliament, Rajya Sabha. Prior to it, Irani held HRD ministry and was given additional charge of Information and Broadcasting ministry. She joined the BJP in 2003. She pursued a successful career in acting before joining politics.

Ms. Sushmita Sen

Sushmita Sen is an award-winning actress and former Miss Universe. She is the first Indian woman to win the Miss Universe title for India. At the time she won, she was just 18. She started her career with the Hindi film Dastak in 1996. In 2013, she was awarded the Mother Teresa International Award for Social Justice.

Dr. Renu Khator

Renu Khator is the chancellor of the University of Houston system and president of the University of Houston. She is the UH System’s first woman Chancellor and the first Indian immigrant to head a comprehensive research university in the United States. Khator received the Pravasi Bharatiya Samman Award from the President of India in 2014, the highest honour conferred on overseas Indians.

Atishi is a member of Political Affairs Committee of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP). As an adviser on education to AAP government, she has played an instrumental role in improving state of education in government-run schools in the national capital. She completed her schooling from Springdales School in New Delhi and studied history at St. Stephen’s College. She went to Oxford University to pursue Masters in the same subject on a Chevening scholarship. In 2005, she joined as a Rhodes scholar in Magdalen College, Oxford.

Ms. Belinda Wright

Belinda Wright is a wildlife photographer and wildlife conservationist. She is the Executive Director of the Wildlife Protection Society of India. Before turning to full time conservation work in 1994, she was a wildlife photographer and an Emmy Award winning documentary filmmaker who worked for many years for National Geographic. She has pioneered investigations into the illegal wildlife trade in the Indian Subcontinent and has been instrumental in the arrest of hundreds of wildlife criminals. She was awarded the O.B.E. in 2003 for services to the protection of wildlife in India. She received the Carl Zeiss Wildlife Conservation Award in 2005, and was elected an Ashoka Senior Fellow in 2009.

Ms. D Roopa Moudgil

D Roopa Moudgil is an IPS officer and is currently posted as IGP. She is the first lady Kannadiga IPS working in Karnataka. In 2000, she got an All-India rank of 43 in UPSC and opted for IPS. She started her career as Superintendent of Police, Dharwad in July 2004. Within a month of assuming charge, she had to execute non-bailable warrant issued by Hubli Court against the then Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh for an old communal case in Hubli and she handled the task successfully. As DIG Prisons, she exposed the prison irregularities and special privileges given to AIADMK leader Sasikala in Bengaluru prison. In a first in the country, she became the first lady police officer to head the Cyber-Crime police station/division in 2013. She was awarded the prestigious “President’s Police Medal for Meritorious Service” in January 2016.In 2013, while she was the DCP, City Armed Reserve, Bengaluru, she had withdrawn 216 excess gunmen kept unauthorisedly by 81 politicians. She also had withdrawn 8 new SUVs of the department that unauthorisedly remained with an ex-Chief Minister of Karnataka.

Ms. Divya Spandana

Divya Spandana, an award-winning actor and politician, is a former Member of Parliament and currently the Chairperson, Social Media and Digital Communications of the Congress party. She has been credited with raising the social media profile of Congress. Popularly known by her screen name Ramya, she made her political debut in 2013 when she won the Lok Sabha by-election from Mandya, Karnataka.

Gurveen Singh is currently Chief Human Resources Officer at RB Group Plc (formerly Reckitt Benckiser). RB is a FSTE 10 multinational consumer goods company headquartered in Slough and the producer of health and hygiene and home goods. Having been in the company for over 20 years, Gurveen has held a number of HR leadership positions included Regional and Area HR Director before stepping into the role of Chief Human Resources Officer in January.

Ms. Jhulan Goswami

Jhulan Goswami is the former captain of India women’s cricket team. She won the ICC Women’s Cricketer of the Year Award 2007. She surpassed Cathryn Fitzpatrick to become the highest wicket-taker in women's ODI history. In 2015, she was one of four senior players who were handed the highest grade of central contracts by BCCI for the first time. Recently, she crossed yet another milestone, becoming the first woman to pick up 300 international wickets during India’s first One-Day International match against Sri Lanka.

Ms. Parvathy Thiruvothu

A National Award winner, Parvathy Thiruvothu made her debut in 2006 Malayalam movie Out of Syllabus. She made her Bollywood debut with the 2017 Hindi movie Qarib Qarib Singlle. won the 'Silver Peacock for the Best Actress' award for her performance in the Malayalam movie 'Take Off', at the prestigious International Film Festival of India. She is one of the first actresses who spoke about the existence of Casting Couch in Malayalam film industry. She is one of the founding members of Women in Cinema Collective, a nonprofit organisation that intends to bring about a positive change by collectively working towards the issues faced by women working in the Malayalam cinema industry.

Ms. Purnima Devi Barman

Purnima Devi Barman is a renowned wildlife biologist and founder of Hargila Army. She works with Guwahati-based NGO Aaranyak that works for wildlife conservation. She was awarded the Nari Shakti Puraskar by President Ram Nath Kovind for her efforts in conserving greater adjutant storks. She also won the prestigious Whitley Awards, also known as the Green Oscars.

Ms. Ranjeet Ranjan

Ranjeet Ranjan is a Congress MP from Supaul contituency in Bihar. She is at present the secretary, AICC and the national spokesperson of her party. One of the most articulate leaders from the younger generation of Congress leaders, she has been forcefully raising the issues of woman empowerment both in and outside of Parliament. This is her second term in the Lok Sabha. She represented the Lok Janshakti Party between 2004-09. A sportsperson in her college days, she is married to fellow parliamentarian Rajesh Ranjan alias Pappu Yadav from Bihar.

Joint Managing Director and Creative Director of Balaji Telefilms, Ekta believes that her reason for success was that she did television production at a time when everybody else was concentrating only on films. A leading international magazine covered her as one of the top 500 global entertainment leaders. She was featured in the list for her contribution to cinema, television and her philanthropic efforts. Though people were not sure how well she is going to do in the film industry, she has made a strong place for herself in the film industry too and was in news recently for her success in ‘Veer Di Wedding’, the movie on female bonding and more. She truly knows how to touch the soul of the people by making serial and movies which people can easily relate to. Making an impressive beginning in the year 1995 with her serial ‘Hum Panch’, she truly has come a long way responsibly carrying the legacy of being actor Jeetendra’s daughter.

Sairee Chahal is the Founder, CEO of SHEROES a community platform for women, offering support, resources, opportunities and interactions. She is also an Aspen Leadership Fellow. In 2018, she was ranked 53 on Onalytica’s “Future of Work Top 100 Influencers” list. Sariee started her career as a journalist. She completed her post-graduation from IMT Ghaziabad. She also has a degree in International Relations from Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU).

The all-women Indian Navy crew, led by Lieutenant Commander Vartika Joshi, successfully circumnavigated around the globe for eight months on board INSV Tarini, and returmed back to base in Goa in May, 2018. The feisty team comprising of Lt P. Swathi, Lt Pratibha Jamwal (Air Traffic Control specialists), Lt Vijaya Devi, Sub Lt Payal Gupta (both Education officers) and Lt B Aishwarya, a naval architect, set a record by becoming the first-ever all-women crew to complete the circumnavigation. It covered over 22,000 nautical miles in the 254-day long voyage. The crew won the prestigious Tenzing Norgay National Adventure award for beating the odds in water with their endurance. It is the highest national recognition for outstanding achievements in the field of adventure on land, sea and air. The crew was also bestowed with Nav Sena Medal on the 72nd Independence Day

Ms. Pincky Balhara

19-year-old Pincky Balhara, a student of Delhi University’s Gargi College, became an instant celebrity in the world of combat sports in India after winning silver medal in Kurash in the recently concluded Asian Games in Jakarta. One of India’s most promising judokas, Pincky now aims to win a gold in Olympics. She is also a two-time national silver medalist. In this year’s Junior Asian Championships, she won a gold medal in the women’s 52kg category.
