A renowned playwright and theatre director, Ratan Thiyam is one of the leading lights of the “theatre of roots” movement which began in the Seventies. The 69-year-old, also known as Thiyam Nemai, is known for writing and staging plays based on ancient Indian theatre traditions and forms in modern context. The venerated theatre guru is at present chairperson of the prestigious National School of Drama.
