Outlook is a widely-circulated, national magazine from Delhi known for its incisive news reports and features since its inception in 1995. Under the dynamic leadership of its founding Editor-in-Chief, the late Vinod Mehta, the weekly blazed a trail in the field of journalism with a series of in-depth stories from different walks of life, mostly revolving around the common man. It carved a unique niche for itself as a magazine with a difference in a short span of time by adhering to its core philosophy of being objective, neutral and fiercely independent. Over the past 22 years, Outlook has remained true to its readers and its belief and intrinsic character, fearing or favouring none when it comes to highlighting the issues of public and national interests. This year, we, at Outlook, are launching the first Vinod Mehta Memorial Lecture on August 18 not only to commemorate the outstanding contributions and legacy of our iconic founding Editor-in–Chief but also to underline and reaffirm our unwavering commitment to the basic and sacrosanct principles of journalism. On this occasion, we have invited Mr Steve Coll, acclaimed American journalist-writer and former managing editor of The Washington Post who has been a two-time Pulitzer Award winner, to deliver the VM Memorial Lecture on ‘Media in the Mirror’ primarily focusing on the crisis of liberalism facing the fourth estate in the 21st century. We take pride in announcing that we will also launch the Speakout Awards during this event and felicitate the ten achievers who have made a difference by pushing the envelope of excellence in their chosen field. The awards will be given for Best Parliamentarian, Best Socially Conscious Entrepreneur, Best Social Activist, Best Academician, Best Non-fiction Book/Author, Best Administrator, Best Journalist, Best Artist and Woman Empowering Leader. Above all, the Vinod Mehta Memorial Lifetime Achievement Award will also be given to a distinguished personality. All the awardees, to be selected from a list of nominees, will be decided on the basis of an online voting on our website, www.speakoutawards.com where all the details are available.
