Yusuf Khwaja Hameid is the chairman of Cipla, a generic pharmaceuticals firm found by his father way back in 1935. Best known for defying the Western medicine companies in providing cheaper generic drugs for treatment of AIDS and other diseases for patients in poor countries, he has made immense contributions towards efforts to eradicate AIDS in the developing world. The 81-year-old says he does not want to ‘make money off the diseases which cause the whole fabric of society to crumble’.
